Limestone is a natural treasure that reveres culture and sedimentation. It is an art originated from nature; it has achieved centuries of classical architecture and culture through billions of years of precipitation; what is the collision between Lyme stone, which writes history and time, and I.M. Pei's classic work?
The office building of the Chinese Embassy in the United States is located in the northwest district of Washington, D.C. It covers an area of 39,900 square meters and has a building area of 10,796 square meters. It is bordered by Van Nuys Street to the north, International Street to the west, and International Drive and Central Park to the south. The foundation stone of the new embassy was officially laid on April 22, 2005, the structure was topped out on April 26, 2006, and it was officially put into use on April 1, 2009, which is the largest embassy office building project built by China abroad in terms of scale and investment.
The embassy was designed by the world-renowned Chinese architect I.M. Pei, and his two sons, I.M. Pei Jianzhong and I.M. Pei Lizhong, were responsible for the entire process. This is the first time that the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs has commissioned an internationally renowned architect to design a building for a diplomatic or consular mission abroad.
The "Pei" design style of the new embassy is evident. While using a large number of Western and modern building materials such as limestone, glass and steel, it also draws on the design concepts of the Suzhou gardens in its hometown, reflecting a unique combination of traditional and modern architectural styles.
In Pei's design, a large number of limestones are used and combined with the charm and essence of Chinese architecture, and the necessary evolution and abstraction on the basis of tradition, reflecting the consistent modern style of Pei's architectural design. French limestone has a long and wide application history, the main categories are Paris Limestone, French Brown Limestone, Louvre Beige Limestone, Provence Limestone, etc.
The Chinese Embassy in the United States incorporates a combination of limestone and traditional Chinese architecture. The building's continuous geometric planes, sculptural tension, and ever-changing combinations of light and shadow allow the people to fully appreciate Mr. I.M. Pei's imaginative design style that blends East and West.
Embassy Use Of Material - Burgundy Limestone
The perfect combination of architecture and limestone has given the embassy a rich humanistic connotation and become a distinctive Chinese business card in Washington. However, limestone is not only loved by overseas designers, but also has set off a "limestone wave" in China, capturing the favor of a number of domestic designers. The use of limestone to create a rich romantic style is not only a mood, but also a fashion.

Limestone is said to be the most storytelling marble, containing a large number of fossilized underwater creatures from billions of years ago. Each piece of lyme stone tile has a long-lasting story of life on it. After the vicissitudes of time, they are eternally fixed in the moment when time stops. We split the rock layer of time and let it reappear under the sun, bringing it to your home, wishing to bring you the natural atmosphere in this artificial world of steel and concrete. We firmly believe that the art that comes from life will last forever and that the magic of nature can forge the most realistic artistic vision.
