Most stone quarries are massive, and the exact composition of mineral deposits varies from one section to the next. According to geologist Karen Kirk, some Super Whites are calcite marbles (which are known for being softer), others are dolomite marbles (which are often harder and more resistant to scratching), and still, others are true quartzite, which will hold up like granite when properly sealed.
Of course, some suppliers will label similar stones, such as Arabescato Marble, as Super White, even though they are not the same.
